Moving Items from your Business LastPass to your Personal LastPass Account

Moving Items from your Business LastPass to your Personal LastPass Account

Overview

If you happen to have personal login credentials saved on your work LastPass vault, no need to worry, you can move them to your personal account. This is highly encouraged as we begin our migration from LastPass to Bitwarden, but not required. We recommend this action to minimize the loss of any important personal information you might need that is stored within your business account. This process will begin with enrolling a personal LastPass account with the LastPass Families benefit plan from inside your business account and then link the two accounts together in order to move items between the two. After finishing the transferal, we'll unlink the personal account from the work account.

Getting Started

Setting up your personal LastPass with LastPass Families benefit

If you haven't already, you can set up a personal account with the LastPass Families plan for free. You can refer to our guide on setting that up here: LastPass Families as a Benefit or follow along the video tutorial down below.

Moving Items from your Work Account to your Personal Account

After you finish setting up your personal LastPass, you can proceed to the linking process. Make sure that you are logged into your business LastPass account.
      1. Under "Account Benefits" on the bottom left side in the navigation pane, go ahead and click that and you should find that your personal account is enrolled in the plan. Under that, you'll find the "Account Linking" section, you can go ahead and click link account.
      2. This will prompt up a window that asks for you to enter your personal LastPass master password, NOT your business master password.
      3. After you successfully enter the master password for your personal LastPass, your two accounts should now be linked.

Moving the items

Once linked, you'll find that a new folder has been created under the name of your personal account.
      1. Go through your vault items and check the box of your personal items to select/highlight them (they will be outlined in red).
      2. After selecting the ones you want to move, you'll find a dropdown button called "Actions" right under the search bar in the top center of the screen. Once you click it, you'll want to hover over the "Move to Folder" option and find your personal account folder and select it to start the moving process.
After it finishes, you'll see that the selected items have been moved to your personal vault folder.

Unlinking the personal account from the business account

Once you finish moving everything you'd like to your personal account, we can unlink your personal account from your business account. This action is taken to prevent your personal items being migrated to Bitwarden and being mixed with your business items.
      1. Open "Account Benefits" again in the left pane navigation and click "Unlink account".
      2. It may prompt for you to enter in your master password (your business one/currently logged into) as a security measure, go ahead and enter that and click "Continue" and confirm the unlink.
You should get a small tab that says it was a success and should see that the "Account linking" status is now unlinked.
