Shared Entries and Folders

Shared Entries and Folders

Sharing Options

There are two approaches for sharing LastPass vault entries. Here is a basic summary to help you decide which is best for the situation:
Individual Entries
Shared Folders
  1. More control over viewing rights for individual password entries
  2. Requires recipient to complete confirmation email prompt for each shared entry
  3. Cannot move entries to a different folder once shared
  1. Viewing rights set by blanket permissions for user's membership of the shared folder
  2. No action required for internal recipients to accept vault entries
  3. Can move entries to a different folder once shared
In most cases, sharing vault items through shared folders is easier.

If a shared credential has 2-step authentication, please read 2-Step for Shared Entries (TOTP) for more information.

Individual Entries

The owner shares the specific item, then the invitee is required to accept the offer in order to access it.

Sending Invitation

To share a specific entry from your vault with another LastPass user, select the Share icon

Enter the name for the internal user(s) or email address(es) you would like to share the entry with. You can share vault entries with any LastPass user.
For passwords, you can opt to hide or show the password to any recipients.

Accepting Invitation

The receiving party will get an invitation email. After clicking on the Accept Shared Data link, a login prompt will appear if not already logged in.

Once logged in, the LastPass vault will open to the Sharing Center module with an Accept Share popup. Edit the entry name and folder as desired. Once saved, the shared entry will appear in the receiving party's vault.

After the receiving party has accepted the shared item and added it to their vault, the sender will get an email notification.

Shared Folders

A shared folder will appear in the vault as Shared-'Folder Name'. To add sites or secure notes to the shared folder, go to your vault and drag-and-drop. You can convert an existing folder to a shared folder at any time, or edit any item to assign it to a shared folder.

You can control the folder access permissions for each user invited to the shared folder.
