Configuring LastPass Preferences

Configuring LastPass Preferences

LastPass is both an online service and an extension that runs locally in your web browser to provide service, even if online access to LastPass is unavailable.

Some of the settings cannot be changed per organization policy, but you still have a fair amount of room to customize your experience. The place where you'll likely get the most value in customizing LastPass for your daily use is within the extension preferences.

Extension Preferences

Please note: the extension preference settings are set uniquely for each install of the LastPass extension. If you want to adjust your extension preferences for both inside and outside of the cloud, you will have to repeat your steps in the additional browser.

To access your extension preferences, open the extension menu  >  Click on your email  >  Select Extension Preferences

Once you are in the Extension Preferences menu, you will see 5 categories:
  1. General
    1. Open sites in new tab, same tab, or new window
    2. Enable/disable auto-fill
    3. Enable/disable auto-launch of vault screen upon login to LastPass
    4. Enable/disable overwriting fields that are already filled
  2. Notifications
    1. Enable/disable prompt to generate secure passwords
    2. Enable/disable form fill notifications, e.g. billing information saved to your vault
    3. Enable/disable certain form fill notifications to happen only after you click on the fields
    4. Enable/disable save site notification when a new site entry is detected
    5. Enable/disable change password notification when a different password is detected
    6. Enable/disable autofill buttons inside login and form fields
    7. Enable/disable display of the number of matching sites
  3. HotKeys
    1. Change keyboard shortcuts for a number of actions, i.e. generate secure password, vault search, open the vault page
  4. Advanced
    1. Enable/disable warning for insecure forms -- it looks for GET requests (less secure... stores your info in URL, which is cached; should not be used for sensitive info) vs. POST requests (not cached, does not display your info in the URL)
    2. Enable/disable searching within secure notes
  5. Icons
    1. Change appearance of the icon for your LastPass extension

If a setting was not listed in the notes above, we recommend that you proceed with caution as it may dramatically shift your experience. If you need to restore the default settings, there is a button to do so found in the bottom left of the Extension Preferences menu.
